The Future & Tales of Camp Maasai... part 1
Wassup Ladies and Gentleman?
I'm going to let you into my experience at an Australian leadership/motivational/inspirational (there is a difference between the last 2) called Camp Maasai a youth camp headed up by The Reach Foundation of Melbourne.
From May 29th to May 31st was their first Maasai event in Sydney, Australia which I was invited to attend as a participant. Basically Camp Maasai is where businesses/business leaders contribute a high amount of money and resource to assist young people of diverse backgrounds, 26 business leaders are then taken away with 26 selected young people from all walks of life some of the youth have been in juvenile justice centres or live on the streets while others maybe from a wealthy and privileged background making the atmosphere so united with all sides of the "tracks" meeting together to be inspired and develop their potential for leadership.
The shock factor for myself was less then others as I work with street youth on a weekly basis and am teaching rap/hip-hop music classes in Cobhem and Baxter correctional facilities on a frequent basis. But the amount of emotion and deep conversations that were unleashed inspired the room of executives and students alike.
The word Maasai is from a African tribe that existed with in the regions surrounding what is now known as North Kenya. A custom of this tribe was place a high emphasis on the youth which is a change from a lot of cultures which emphasise looking after the elders (which is equally important I believe).
The weekend helped let out a lot of the emotional package keeping young people back my life in the past hasn't always been as bright as it is now. I've been from low valleys to high peaks - this is all good though cause it makes me who I am.
Only 3 days have passed and all those who left the camp are still in touch and are determined to live their visions which are just dreams. Dreaming is our beginning as young leaders and I'm excited to involve myself with anything that has a good cause or vision .e.g. the YgenClub. Express your ideas and concepts (protect them) ... but utilise what you've been given.
Visit reach.org.au for further information on such a good organisation.
More information to be posted soon. I will be a regular blogger seek me out and let me know where you're at??!!

The School Holidays were FRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSH!!!

So I'm going to break it down in Sub-Headings....
FREEDOM WITHIN CAMP
Freedom Within Camp, is a program operated by a organisation that has provided so many opportunities for me and just allowed me to grow as a person, artist and more. (www.mmad.org.au) Musicians Making A Difference...
We went in to a Juvenile Justice Centre in West Gosford to operate this camp designed to liberate young males who are locked up behind bars. Their crimes are in the past and we assist them on their path to rehabilitation, the amount of negative pressure they put up with is a considerable thing when the get out the lack of trust held by people distrubs em as you can imagine.
USING THE POWER OF MUSIC & HIP HOP CULTURE... its been an absolute honour and privledge to be apart of the proces what I saw could only be described as a miracle. It has really taught me a lot as a individual... my faith tell me it was God.
Others can think what they like ... I know its hard to understand with out being there... But you'll see in future posts their progress and their accomplishments...
Other stuff thats been going on is my Streetradio.net radio show check it out online every thursday which is run with Oasis Center, Surry Hills which looks after the street youth of the nation and is facilitated by the Salvation Army.
We ran a Krosswerd "Hip-hop Church" event last tuesday which was really positive development which i'm praying will grow...
...LIFE IS GOOD RIGHT NOW...
still things i gotta think through but thats life am i right?

24 Afghan children living in Rome sewer
Italian police have discovered 24 Afghan children living in filthy conditions in the sewer system under a Rome railway station, Italian media reported on Saturday.
The children, ranging in age from 10 to 15, were unaccompanied and some were in poor physical condition, the reports said.
They slept under cartons or dirty blankets in the hiding place not far from Rome's Colosseum, the daily La Repubblica reported.
Railway police discovered the children along with 98 other people including other Afghans, the report said, adding that they were being cared for by the city's social services.
The Italian branch of the charity Save the Children said in a statement that the number of Afghan minors arriving in the Italian capital rose steadily from 32 in 2004 to 264 in 2007.
More than 1,000 foreign minors wound up in Rome in 2007 out of a total of nearly 8,000 in Italy, the group said on its website.
La Repubblica said the children found in the sewer system were thought to have reached Italy via Turkey and Greece.
